Pike’s Farm Stand in December

I love farm stands; you are able to get vegetables the same day that they were picked. I can picture the bushels of lettuce, so green even a carnivore would smile. In late August I dream of the corn and tomatoes, which I devour almost daily. As Summer ends the weather gets cooler,  and apples come into season…yum.

New York experiences the change of seasons, which many people fondly embrace. But Winter is not a highlight for the farming community. A couple weeks ago I was driving by one of my favorite farm stands, Pike’s on Sag Main in Sagaponack.

No lettuce, corn, or tomatoes. Brrr, I think I better spend more time indoors, perhaps making some hearty winter meals.
